Hi! My name's Sarah and this is a blog full of everything I wish to share and whatever goes through my mind when I sit down to blog. :)

I go to school in the city and our campus isn't closed off so I have walk over a mile to get to my classes; so far, I've lost 8 pounds and I'm eating right too! I've been in school for a month. Hopefully we'll both stay away from the freshmen 15 :)

Oh wow! If it’s a time crunch, have you considered getting a bike? I kinda want one but I also like that I get to walk so much, it’s especially good cuz I don’t get much time to work out. But I’m so happy for you! I wish I could see how much I weigh (I don’t have a scale around here) since I’m always torn between “wow I think my calves have gotten more toned” or “wow… I think I can literally see myself putting on the freshman 15”. 8 pounds is amazing, keep it up! :D I honestly need to stick to eating clean, it makes me feel so much better.

Fruittttt!

With a dining hall meal plan, it is SO easy to fall into a constant cycle of poor food choices (freshman fifteen anyone?) and I’m still struggling to get out of it. The first couple of weeks, I just ate so much food because, hey, I have unlimited access to the best dining hall on campus… I’m going to use it. But then I just wasn’t feeling my best and I realized it was because of my food. I don’t have a bike and i live at the edge of campus so I get plenty of walking exercise so it had to have been the food. At home, my family is really health-conscious with organic foods, lowfat/nonfat, and whole wheat galore but here… most foods aren’t whole wheat, have too much salt, and are full of butter. That being said, those aren’t the only options. I absolutely love fruit and vegetables and the salad bar is amazing so lately I’ve been getting a little bit of “other” food and 3/4 of my plate full of a really nicely made salad. We also have a sandwich bar with (thank goodness) whole wheat bread so I throw a sandwich together for myself and I feel great. Yea, I can have my unhealthy meal but I can also just as easily eat something healthier and I try to keep reminding myself that. Those other foods may be tempting in the moment but it never feels good afterwards and it’s not easy to remember that all the time but it is worth it. Same for breakfast. Yea, there’s the omelet and belgian waffles (ahhh USC waffles <3) and pancakes but there’s also the cereals and bagels and toast. It took me some time to realize that just because I have all these foods available, doesn’t mean I need to eat them all. I could just have a banana and cereal one day and maybe a pancake another day. Oh! And the best thing happened today. I was outand we ended up going to Trader Joe’s and I got to stock up on healthy snacks! There’s some fruit in the dining halls but I miss my fav fruits so I stocked up on strawberries and picked up some low fat kettle corn and PB filled pretzels. Ahhh <3 Initially I just had a bunch of chocolate and various cookies but nothing nice and bland and enriching. So anyways, everything in moderation. Does anyone else have similar/different dining hall experiences? Freshman 15 stories? Tips, tricks, suggestions?

Oh! As for these pictures, I went on a field trip to the Walt Disney Concert Hall (s/o to Frank Gehry for some truly killer architectural skills) and there was this lady selling fruit and ohmygod I was SO happy. Mangos are my most favoritest fruit everrr so I got some fresh mangos and coconut and watermelon and it was just so great. I got to sit outside, look out at LA, be in one amazing building, and sketch. The second one is of Nekter which is a juice bar on campus and I think I’m obsessed. That particular drink is actually a green smoothie with kale and other healthy stuff haha. If I could use my starbucks card there, I totally would. I was just feeling really unhealthy and needed to detox and nekter doesn’t put in anything unnatural or unhealthy and their drinks are packed full of nutrients just from the nature of the fruits/vegetables that they put in. And, lastly, my cute pineapple. This actually isn’t super crazy healthy hehe. There’s a farmer’s market on campus once a week and this is from the first time that I discovered it. This is the world’s smallest pineapple and there was one vendor that makes gelato and sorbet and he puts them back into the fruit as a casing. Tbh, coconut is probably my new favorite flavor but I just couldn’t get it after seeing how adorable this pineapple looked so I couldn’t resist and bought this cutie.

Have a lovely day!

Sarah

MIA much? Yea, sorry. Everything has been so hectic with moving and getting adjusted to college. That picture up there is of my new absolutely favorite study spot. My roommate and I keep our room pretty quiet so it’s great to study there but I really like being outside as well in this weather. I was all excited to check out the main library on campus (which is gorgeous from the outside) and was majorly disappointed by the interior but as I was leaving I noticed this balcony area right outside and it was just perfect. I didn’t realize all the small things I left off of my dorm haul list (maybe I should update that soon…) like plates, utensils, fabric softener, coffee cups, etc. For some reason I’m not homesick or anything but I do miss having some really close friends. With due time, maybe I’ll build some strong, new bonds? J Let’s just see how it goes…

Picking classes is a struggle because I’m just interested in too many things. Am I the only person with this problem? :’(

When I’m focused, I bring my eyebrows together and look kinda angry. My physics teacher used to nervously stop the lecture and ask if there was something I needed.

*I can’t help it*

*physics made no sense*

I had such an amazing day today! I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family lately and I guess Ludacris had a similar sentiment. So, first off, I babysat my younger cousins and we had a mean game of monopoly going. Unfortunately, I lost and this little guy on the right won the whole thing. Big risks reap big rewards as demonstrated by his extremely risky tactics. Then, we all went out for pizza and some arcading. Finally, we decided to go mini golfing. When we got onto the second course Ludacris and his daughter let us go ahead of them. They’re SO incredibly nice! I kept looking at him thinking I knew him from somewhere and my brother was pretty sure he was from Fast and Furious 5. These kids came by and asked if he was famous and I’m not sure what he said but they went away. Since they were right behind us, they often patiently waited behind us so my brother asked if he was Ludacris and he says, “Nahh man, I wish, otherwise I wouldn’t be here right now.” I jumped in and asked if we could have a picture anyways and he says, “Sure, after we finish the course,” and that’s when I was quite darn sure it was him. My brother also kinda matched the tattoos up and was certain. Anyways, we finish the game up and I decided to ignore them because, come on, it’d be so creepy and annoying if people stared at and took pictures of me play golf when I was just trying to hang out with my family. Since we were close we could hear shouts of triumph and despair from behind us - much like our own - and it was all so normal. When we all finished he remembered his promise and asked his daughter to take a picture of us. I’m just so happy I got to meet him and see how down-to-earth and polite he is. So, that’s my incredibly nice day. :)
